Javea-Xabia ( the local Valencianos like to call it: Xàbia)
is a town on the Costa Blanca in Spain.
This town lies in the valley of the large Montgo Mountain (753 metres) in the Northern Costa Blanca, situated on the most easterly point of mainland Spain about 100 km from Valencia and 90 km from Alicante. Many would argue Javea-Xabia is the finest place on the whole Costa Blanca and we wouldn’t argue too strongly with this.
This has always been a popular area for the international property buyer since it offers it all!
You can spend your time enjoying the beautiful sandy golden beaches, eating delicious food or exploring the old town. And Javea-Xàbia has some excellent well maintained residential areas for you.
Javea-Xabia started attracting North Europeans more than 30 years ago and some of these visitors never left, leaving a thriving international community to this day. Javea-Xabia is divided into three parts:
- Javea-Xabia Pueblo, the old town
- Javea-Xabia Puerto, the port area
- Playa de Arenal, the beach area
The Old Town
The pleasant old centre of Javea-Xabia is a good place to spend a morning or afternoon on a hot sunny day since the narrow streets give you shade from the beating sun. You can wander down ancient narrow streets and visit the local market on a Thursday. The busy food market has its stalls full of fresh fish, fruits and vegetables from the region. This old town is built with original Tosca sandstone and his rich in medieval history. The Gothic fortified church of San Bartolome dominates the centre of Javea-Xabia ’s old town, this church dates back to the 15th century!
The Javea-Xabia Port is connected to the old town and about a mile and a half drive from the Arenal beach. The Port has its own beach, ‘La Grava’, a truly stunning pebble beach. Since the water does not get murky with sand the water is always crystal clear with an amazing blue color.
The marina is still functioning as a fishing port and is a living area which is popular with visitors attracted by its lovely promenade with open air terrace restaurants and pleasant local bars serving tapas.
You will have a stunning view from the bay and bars. Once a year the port is home to one of Spain’s more unusual fiestas when bulls are released into a paddock area. Here the bulls are taunted by local youths who jump into the sea when the bull charges them.
The Beach “Playa de Arenal”
Playa de Arenal is the town’s main tourist centre and the most well-known and popular beach visited by bathers due to its fine sand and shallow water. The beach is about 300m long situated between the well-located Hotel Parador in the north and the rocky outcrop in the south. Here you will find numerous bars and restaurants. The beach is horseshoe shaped and offers safe, clean, soft sand and is gently sloping into the sea, making it perfect for families. There are a couple of volleyball nets along the back of the beach which are popular later in the day. For the kids, there are plenty of play areas.
Highly recommended is Scuba diving in Javea-Xabia. There are different shops offering introductory dives and PADI courses. And do not forget the visit the great golf courses in Javea-Xabia!
