Tower Cap d'Or

THE TOWER OF CAP D´OR

If you´re looking for more than just Spanish sun and beautiful beaches, the Costa Blanca also offers great walking routes such as the famous walking trail of “Torre de Vigia”, which is one of the best known ones in our area.

HISTORY OF THE CAP D´OR TOWER

The tower dates all the way back to the 16th century, standing on the high peak of Cap D´Or, with 11 metres of height.

Its task was, along with the neighbouring towers in Calpe and Jávea, to keep watch over the coastline and warn of potential enemy attacks.

The intriguing route offers different views of the curious tower, seen alongside a clifftop from below which gives it a more imposing air, while once one has reached the summit it seems rather more staid.

The whole construction is solid stone, and it also has the peculiarity of lacking an entrance door, as it was entered using rope ladders. Inside there is one single vaulted room which housed the lookouts.

WALKIN TRAIL “TORRE DE VIGIA”

60 minute walk. The tower can only be reached on foot, a walk of 1600 meters; about 60 minutes. The starting point is located at El Portet.

At the beach you follow the road up to the end at the T junction turn right and then left up to the end of the road. With green and white stripes marked path is fairly passable but you need to wear sturdy walking shoes. The walking path is quite zigzagging, and sometimes you have to almost climb.

You walk through the protected area of the Cap d’Or and find several rare plants which are extensively described in an information site. The true nature lovers will marvel at the partially unique vegetation.

One of the ideal plans in summer is to get up early, reach the summit and see the sunrise of the Mediterranean with the Peñón de Ifach in the background; and of course, after the effort, a well-deserved swim in the spectacular waters of Playa del Portet and a good breakfast by the sea. A unique site in Europe where a lot of scientific research has been done.

MAGNIFICENT VIEWS

Once at the top (166 meters) you will not only have the “Torre de Vigia”, but in clear weather you will also enjoy stunning views of the coast and inland, impressive steep cliffs and the overpowering silence.
