Located about 2 kilometres from the coast we find the old town of Calpe. Due to the constant threat of pirates and corsairs in the old coastal towns, they moved away from the coast and often built walled enclosures and fortifications for their protection such as the famous Peça Tower. This is the case of Calpe, which had a wall that ran along the perimeter of the old town to defend itself from pirate attacks.

The best thing to do in the Old Town of Calpe is to stroll through this charming place to discover every corner. We can follow the signposted tourist route by walking through the small narrow cobbled streets, alleys full of beautiful plants and flowers, the decorated stairs or visiting the old city walls, churches and ancient Roman ruins.

One of the highlights of Calpe's Old Town is the Torre de la Peça, located in Plaza de la Vila, which was part of the double defensive wall with artillery that defended the city in the 15th century and currently houses the Museum of Collecting. . During the tour you can also visit the parish church of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, a unique parish that is also located in the Plaza del Pueblo in the heart of the historic center. The Museum of History and Archaeology of Calpe, located on Calle Santísimo Cristo, is the perfect place to discover the secrets of this beautiful city's past.

Along the streets we can see several murals and coloured mosaics on the walls, among which the Mosaic Mural on the façade of the tourist office, by the painter and muralist Alicantino Gastón Castelló stands out, which represents his view of the town of Calpe.

The historic center of Calpe is already quite lively in itself, but if you want to see it more in depth, every Sunday there is a craft market where you can find not only handicrafts, but second-hand items, bakery, sweets, plants, clothes. , books, and organic vegetables.
